So, there we were cruising and in the lead with lots of chances created to make it more, playing well with nice patterns of passing and secure defensively. We were perhaps not to our normal standard but still playing pretty good football.
I’ll blame the coach (me) for what must have been an uninspiring half time team talk but we came up against an opposition with renewed grit who started winning the 50:50 balls they had previously lost and got behind our defence time and again shooting virtually on sight - albeit with some strong and purposeful efforts.
We rallied a little in the last 15 minutes but the damage was done and heads had dropped....only the post match sweets helped lift the mood!
Overall the lads should be proud of the immense effort they put in - every one of them put their heart and soul into it, and perhaps care so much that going down having been ahead for so long really upset them, and took their confidence away.
Anyway, we’ll learn from it - they are only 10 or 11 years old after all - and come back strongly next week for the second game in the cup.
Well done to Pannal Ash who were determined to avenge our win a few weeks ago, and so they did. It happens!
Looking forward to next Sunday now.
