A great training session for the Whites, who were separated into two very evenly matched teams, at least skill-wise. It turned out that the reds were mostly the bigger players and the greens the mostly smaller ones which made for a very interesting game to watch.
The warm-ups consisted of skills based games with the reds winning one and the greens winning the other so it all came down to the match itself. Any early Sunday morning cobwebs were soon shaken off when the whistle blew for kick-off, and whilst some of our recent passing drills went astray in the heat of the battle it was good to still see so many passing moves particularly over short distances and with pace.
It was a very even contest but the reds led 2-1 at half time. The greens then changed their formation (well done to them for self-organising that) and with two solid defenders instead of one they began to take control eventually winning 4-2. The reds still created chances and it was close all the way to the final whistle.
Some brilliant performances all round including some terrific bravery in goal on both sides. Lovely to see so many kids up for goalkeeping now! On the pitch there was high passion, huge commitment and some shuddering tackles. Only the odd knee scrape and the occasional frustrated tear but all in a great game to ref, coach and watch. Looking forward to seeing how the opposition cope with our ferocity when we next have an actual game, and hoping we can keep developing our passing game as impressively as we have so far this season!
